What Is IV Therapy?

Over the past few years, IV therapy has gained popularity for its ability to quickly and efficiently boost energy levels, enhance metabolism, cure hangovers, and bring many other benefits to general health and well-being.

In this article, we’re shining a spotlight on IV therapy and tell you everything you need to know before booking your treatment.

What Is IV Therapy?

IV therapy is a convenient way of delivering vitamins, minerals, and hydration directly into your bloodstream for immediate absorption and use by your body. This type of treatment completely bypasses the digestive system, allowing a 100% absorption rate of the nutrients, as opposed to only 20-50% if they were administered orally. You’ll feel the beneficial effect of IV therapy quickly and it will last for days.

IV drips consist of a unique blend of vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes that can help restore hydration, improve antioxidant levels, boost energy, brighten your skin, support healthy hair and nails, enhance metabolism, and much more. An IV solution can be customized to meet your individual health and wellness needs and achieve maximum effect.

How Does IV Therapy Work?

IV therapy is administered using the same methods that are used by hospitals. A nurse inserts a needle into a vein in your elbow or the back of your hand and pushes a small tube called a catheter over the needle. Once the needle is removed, the catheter remains in your vein and delivers nutrients to your body. The nurse will continue to monitor you for any reactions and ensure the IV stays in place during treatment.

Reset IV is a concierge service which means that there’s no need for you to leave the comfort of your home to enjoy the benefits of an IV treatment. If you live in Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas, Miami, Washington D.C, or Tampa we can deliver therapy in your home, your office, a hotel room, or another location of your choice. We will be at your door already within an hour of booking, depending on availability.

Below, we tell you more about the typical ingredients of an IV formula.

What’s In An IV Bag?

IV therapy provides a highly concentrated combination of nutrients that are naturally present in your body and the foods you eat. IV drips contain essential fluids, electrolytes, vitamins, antioxidants, and optional medications. These ingredients are specifically blended by our professionals to address your individual health and wellness needs.

Normal Saline

The base of all our IV solutions is normal saline which provides essential hydration, dilutes medications, and facilitates the delivery of vitamins and minerals throughout your body. Normal saline consists of water and sodium chloride that are crucial for hydrating and nourishing your body.

Vitamin B complex

Vitamin B complex includes vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), and vitamin B12 (cobalamin). All of these vitamins play a crucial role in maintaining optimal health and well-being. They directly impact your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, helps maintain your muscles, bones, and immune system in addition to promoting the biosynthesis of collagen.

Biotin, or vitamin B7, holds an essential role in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. It is indispensable for the optimal health of your skin, hair, and nails.

Folic acid

Folic acid helps produce and maintain new red blood cells that carry oxygen to all parts of your body.

Modified Myer’s Cocktail

The Modified Myer’s Cocktail is a special formula that consists of magnesium, calcium, B-vitamins, and vitamin C, designed to improve your overall well-being. It is effective against migraines, fatigue, seasonal allergies, and more.

M.I.C. (Methionine, Inositol, and Choline)

Methionine, inositol, and choline are vitamins that contribute to weight loss and improving general health.

Amino blend

The amino blend contains various amino acids that are important for digestion, providing energy, regulating moods, and assisting the creation of muscles and connective tissue.

Glutathione is an antioxidant that plays an essential role in preventing cellular damage and reducing the speed of the aging process.

In addition to the common ingredients mentioned above, some of our packages also include anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory medication to help reduce inflammation and pain when you’re not feeling your best.

To further increase the effectiveness of your IV treatment, you may choose one or more add-ons, for example:

  • L-Arginine to help build muscle and rebuild tissue
  • Banana bag (multivitamin)
  • Branch chain amino acids to help reduce fatigue and accelerates weight loss
  • Taurine to lower blood pressure and calm your nervous system
  • AMPED (a combination of caffeine and taurine).

Below, we answer some of the most common questions about IV therapy.

How Long Does IV Therapy Take?

IV therapy usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the type of treatment. The entire process, from a nurse arriving at your home, setting up and administering the IV to payment and cleanup will typically take about 60-90 minutes.

The average treatment time for NAD therapy is between 2 and 4 hours.

How Quickly Will You Feel The Effects of the IV Drip?

One of the main benefits of receiving an IV treatment is the fast rate of nutrient absorption. You will often feel the effects of the IV drip, such as increased energy and mental clarity, almost immediately after the therapy. Other improvements, like skin brightening or reducing the signs of aging, may take a few weeks to notice.

Possible Side Effects from IV Therapy

IV therapy is in most cases a very safe procedure. Few people experience side effects during or after intravenous treatments and allergic reactions are extremely rare.

To ensure the safety of your treatment, Reset IV formulas are administered by highly trained medical professionals who have extensive experience in providing IV therapy in hospitals and clinics. Our priority is ensuring that you are receiving a treatment that meets the highest safety standards using only top-of-the-line sterile equipment. In addition, our nurses are trained to quickly respond in case an allergic reaction occurs and have all the necessary supplies readily accessible.

Common side effects

The most common side effects of IV fluid therapy include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Skin irritation
  • Discomfort
  • Bruising
  • Itching
  • Inflammation
  • Redness
  • Muscle Stiffness.

The IV drip bypasses the skin, which is the body's natural defense mechanism and creates a direct path for bacteria into the bloodstream. This means that if your skin or the needle are not properly cleaned before the nurse inserts the IV, you risk getting an infection. However, the risk of blood infection is minimal with proper sterilization and hygiene.

Phlebitis is the inflammation of the vein around the spot where the needle is inserted. Phlebitis can be caused either by a needle that is not properly sterilized, a needle that is too large for the vein, or by the ingredients in the IV solution. The symptoms of phlebitis include pain in the arm, swelling, tenderness, and redness around the insertion site.

Phlebitis is among the most common complications of IV therapy. Fortunately, it is rarely a serious condition and can be treated simply by applying warm compresses or taking anti-inflammatory medications.

Infiltration occurs when the tip of the catheter becomes dislodged or the drip passes through the wall of the blood vessel and pushes through the other side of the vein. This causes the IV fluid to leak from the vein into surrounding cell tissue.

Infiltration is quite a common side effect of IV therapy, in most cases without any serious consequences. If infiltration takes place, the nurse will simply stop the flow of fluids into your bloodstream.

Unlike infiltration, extravasation is caused by fluids like anti-nausea drugs, sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, or concentrated potassium chloride that can damage the tissue. The symptoms of extravasation include pain and burning sensation at the needle insertion site as well as blistering and skin sloughing. Extravasation can lead to infections and local tissue and muscle damage.

You should not receive IV therapy if you suffer from congestive heart failure or kidney disease or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the drip. If you have any medical conditions or allergies, you should consult your doctor before the treatment to avoid any complications. Our physicians will also provide a medical consultation free of charge and approve your treatment before you start the therapy.
